Frequently Asked Questions
❓What kinds of books do you make?
We produce custom books tailored to the specific priorities of businesses, organizations, and families. Whether it’s a corporate history that celebrates a major milestone, a tourism keepsake for guests, a book that functions as a compelling business calling card, a family history, or a thoughtful gift for a grandchild, the format and content are designed entirely around your goals. See examples on our home page.
❓What are “corporate/business history books”?
Corporate/business history books are those that catalog the people, successes, and pivotal moments of a business. They are often used to celebrate that history and give future direction to the business.
❓I’m a small business owner, how do businesses and organizations actually use these books?
On top of celebrating the successes and foundational moments of your business, these books can be used as premium client gifts, high-impact business calling cards, ongoing marketing tools, or even revenue-generating assets. They turn a fleeting anniversary celebration into something that lasts and serves multiple strategic purposes.
❓What are these books for children or grandchildren?
These are the books that are the most personal for our clients. They are professionally published books of your child’s or grandchild’s writing, art, or stories. These are clients who want to tell their children or grandchildren that their creativity and presence matters by giving them something they’ll be proud of for the rest of their life.
❓What is the typical investment and print run?
Most projects involve the production of 100 to 5,000 copies and range in cost between $15,000 and $100,000+ (if ghostwriting is involved), depending on complexity, scope of project, quantity, and production values. For more details, please see the Timeline & Investment.
❓How long has Sharon worked on custom book projects? How many books have you been commissioned to publish in this way?
While S. Woodhouse Books is a newer imprint, Sharon Woodhouse brings over 30 years of publishing industry experience to every project . She has successfully guided hundreds of authors, businesses, and organizations through the publishing process and she and her team ensure a professional, high-quality result for you as well. ❓How long does it take to get a book published? When should I start reaching out?
Each book takes between 6 months to 2.5 years to publish, depending on its complexity and needs. For an anniversary or milestone book, contact us anywhere from 1 to 3 years in advance.
❓What will the final product look like? Are these books “fancy”?
The production value for each book changes depending on the goals, budget, and other project requirements. Some projects involve producing “fancy” books—leather binding, gilt or sprayed page edges, ribbon bookmarks, pockets for memorabilia, embossing/debossing, special papers, and more—while others won’t. For more details on the decision-making process, please see Services.
❓How involved will I be in the process of making it?
As involved or not involved as you desire. You can also appoint one of your team members to be the contact for the entire project.
❓I already have a manuscript/family history written. Can you just publish it for me?
Yes, we can enter the process of publishing your book at any stage and manage as much or as little of it as you need.
❓Who owns the rights to the book and the materials produced?
All rights to the book and the materials produced belong to you, the client.
❓What if we don’t have all our historical photos or documents organized?
An intimidating hurdle for corporate/family histories may be the sheer size and/or less-than-ideal organization of your archives. Don't let this deter you from moving forward. We have people who can help with all aspects of publishing books, including this one.
